Since Windows XP, Microsoft has been adding drop shadow effect on icons. And I look it as a good facility, but on other hands, it will make your computer be slower. If you feel at the same way, just disable it. And here is the trick.
1. To disable drop shadow, open System Properties, to open it you have two ways. First, right click My Computer in Start Menu and then click Properties menu; Second way is through Control Panel, click Start – Control Panel and then double click System icon.

2. Inside System Properties, click Advanced tab inside Performance frame and then click Settings button.

3. In Performance Options, click Visual Effects tab (you don’t need click it if you’re already in there), in Custom list make sure that Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop is unchecked.

4. Now, your drop shadow effect has disappeared and gives you extra speed.
