Speech Recognition On Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Office XP has including Speech Recognition in its installation package. With Speech Recognition you can dictate your document or give it some commands, so you have an alternative input method beside type them by keyboard. So I want share its commands list to make it easier and how to install it if you don’t have it yet.

OK, for check if you have speech recognition has installed check the microphone icon on languange bar (picture on step 9), if you can’t find the microphone icon on toolbar, it means the speech recognition doesn’t installed yet.
Here is to install it :

  1. Click StartControl Panel icon.

  2. Double click Add/Remove Programs icon.

  3. Find Microsoft Office XP Professional in Add/Remove Programs list and click its Change button.

  4. After Microsoft Office XP Setup has been opened, choose Add or Remove Features option then click Next button.

  5. Find Speech component under Office Shared Features -> Alternative User Input category,
    Choose Speech featureafter you find it click the icon and choose Run from My Computer menu then click Update button.Choose Speech feature
  6. Insert your Microsoft Office CD if you are asked.

  7. Then install progress will continue…

  8. If the language bar icon doesn’t appear on taskbar (like in picture on step 9), just right click the taskbar and choose Toolbars -> Language bar menu.

  9. And the language bar icon will display in taskbar, usually located near tray icon.

  10. Now, open the Microsoft Excel program.

  11. After Microsoft Excel is opened, click Language bar icon on taskbar and choose Show the Language bar menu.

  12. To use speech recognition, click Microphone icon (if it is already pressed, leave it, because if it has pressed, it means it has activated) and then click Voice Command icon.

  13. If you use it for the first time you will ask to train it first, you can skip it but if you’re training it the accuracy will increase from 80-85% to 95%.

  14. And if the training is over you may try it, try to speak “File” and if the program recognize it
