Since Windows XP, Microsoft has been adding drop shadow effect on icons. And I look it as a good facility, but on other hands, it will make your computer be slower. If you feel at the same way, just disable it. And here is the trick.<span id="more-71"></span></p>
<p>1. To disable drop shadow, open System Properties, to open it you have two ways. First, right click My Computer in <strong>Start Menu</strong> and then click <strong>Properties</strong> menu; Second way is through <strong>Control Panel</strong>, click <strong>Start – Control</strong> Panel and then double click <strong>System</strong> icon.</p>
<p><img title="System icon" src="http://www.otakatik.com/wp-content/uploads/tiptricks/0028/picture-1.jpg" alt="System icon" /></p>
<p>2. Inside System Properties, click <strong>Advanced</strong> tab inside <strong>Performance</strong> frame and then click <strong>Settings</strong> button.</p>
<p><img title="Settings button" src="http://www.otakatik.com/wp-content/uploads/tiptricks/0028/picture-2.jpg" alt="Settings button" /></p>
<p>3. In <strong>Performance Options</strong>, click <strong>Visual Effects</strong> tab (you don’t need click it if you’re already in there), in <strong>Custom</strong> list make sure that <strong>Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop</strong> is unchecked.</p>
<p><img title="Look customize list" src="http://www.otakatik.com/wp-content/uploads/tiptricks/0028/picture-3.jpg" alt="look customize list" /></p>
<p>4. Now, your drop shadow effect has disappeared and gives you extra speed.</p>
